In our therapy sessions, our commitment is to offer a warm, safe,
experience for our clients. Each person brings his/her individual
concerns. Together, Dr. or Mrs. Jacobs works with the client to
tailor a treatment plan that meets your needs. Using decades of
experience and finely honed intuitive skills, we offer short-term
and long-term individual, family, and/or marital therapy.
In our books, we are committed to
offering concepts and tools for positive relationships, not cookbook
formulas. Parenting is one of the hardest jobs - and one of the
most important - in the world. We support you for wanting to learn
more about parenting whether your child is 3, 15, or 30. Because
there is no parent manual attached to our child when she comes into
the world, we are continuously learning as we go. There is no room
for guilty recriminations, only for accepting our imperfection and
simultaneously, our openness to continually being a learner. As
parents, we grow our own souls while we guide our children in growing
theirs.
We try to be helpful AND brief. Parents don't have time for lengthy
dissertations or lectures so our books are deliberately written
to be reader friendly. Remember these simple acronyms:
For a bad relationship -
B - Badger
A - Attack
D - Downplay your child's positive behavior
For a good relationship -
G - Give respect, encouragement, support
O - Overlook a lot of minor behavior
O - Observe the positive qualities of your child
D - Delight in the person who is your son or daughter
For parents of adult children, we stress the R.C.A. approach
for a good relationship:
R - RESPECT your child as a separate and independent person.
C - COMMUNICATE which is a two way street. Parents express
their needs and opinions, at the same time listening to your child's
needs without judging or interrupting.
A - ACCEPT your child as an adult. You have done your job.
We advocate shifting your focus to your own life.
